In November, the Manhattan Institute and the National Review Institute cosponsored a gathering in New York City to discuss the 50th Anniversary of Bill Buckley’s 1965 mayoral run and the great consequences of that endeavor, and the publication of a new edition of Bill’s campaign memoir, The Unmaking of a Mayor. C-SPAN was on hand to capture the brilliance, which was just aired. The first panel, moderated by Jay Nordlinger, included Midge Decter and Norman Podhoretz reflecting on the dire straights facing the Big Apple was like way back when Buckley, Lindsay, and Beame slugged it out, to the thrill of the five boroughs and, indeed, the 50 states. Enjoy.
