Yesterday’s PPP poll had Trump leading by 14 and Rubio, Kasich, Christie, Bush, and Cruz basically in a big tie for second (Rubio leads this group with 15 percent). I like looking at the ideological breakdown of candidate support to get an idea of who is getting support from where. Rubio’s support is evenly distributed across the party’s major ideological groupings (and so is Trump’s), while Cruz’s support tilts right although with support from somewhat conservatives as well. Bush, Kasich, and Christie are all relying on the center-left of the party, with Bush running especially poorly among very conservatives.
