Kevin’s remarks about Haley — we used to have to specify which governor we were talking about, Nikki or Barbour, but now I guess it’s just Nikki — reminded me of a George Will line in 2000. The line was a tiny bit unfair, in my judgment. But still pungent, and funny, and obviously memorable.

The great man opened a column as follows:

“Only in America!” exclaimed Joseph Lieberman to the Democratic convention, 132 years after Britain’s Conservative Party, not then a deep lagoon of advanced thinking, produced a Jewish prime minister, and 44 years after Catholic Dublin elected a Jewish mayor. The presidential campaign is off to a promising start — promising, that is, hilarity.
