Steve King: Branstad Knock on Cruz 'Flatly False' and 'Wrong'

Marshalltown, Iowa— Iowa representative Steve King blasted the state’s governor, Terry Branstad, today after Branstad attacked Ted Cruz, whom King is backing.

Branstad told reporters at a summit on Renewable Fuels yesterday that he wanted Cruz to lose the Iowa caucuses, saying the fiery Texan’s stance on renewable fuels meant voting for him “would be very damaging for our state.” Branstad’s son, Eric, works for a group that has been attacking Cruz for his stance on ethanol.

“You don’t have to be a genius to figure out that statement was false,” King told a group of 20 people at Cecil’s Cafe here this afternoon. “It’s flatly false on its face . . . [and it's] wrong. It violates Reagan’s 11th Commandment: don’t speak ill of Republicans.”

Branstad “should correct the record,” King said. “He should admit that the things that his son has been saying about renewable fuels, that he has now repeated, are not accurate. They’re not true.”
