Donald Trump, for amnesty:
Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped.
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 29, 2013
And lest anyone think this is tough talk, border security first and amnesty second has long been the “RINO” immigration position. After years of failed border-security promises, any plan that contains amnesty has long been (rightly) perceived as far more focused on amnesty than security.
Many argue that Marco Rubio’s immigration stance in 2013 disqualifies him from consideration — in spite of an otherwise-sterling conservative record and a pledge to reverse course. Does Trump’s 2013 stance disqualify him?
