How candidates perform tonight in Iowa as compared to their standing in the final Des Moines Register poll will determine the perception of their respective trajectories, Charles Krauthammer said tonight.
“If you look at the latest polls, there’s an interesting dynamic,” Krauthammer said on Monday’s Special Report. “The last two polls, the ones that came out after the Des Moines Register poll, and that included the entire weekend, so that would absorb most of the Trump no-show for the debate. One of them show a three-car pile up in the low 20s with Trump, Cruz, and Rubio.”
“Now if that is a more accurate representation of where we are, then what you could have is the biggest shocker of the campaign, depending on the birth order here,” Krauthammer continued. ”If Trump comes out second, or, particularly if he comes out third, it would be shocking. If Rubio comes in second it would be surprising.”
“If we came out where the Des Moines Register has us, with Trump at 28, with Cruz at 23, Rubio at 15, that’s going to be the expectation standard,” he said. ”Anybody who exceeds that or comes under it will be seen as having either exceeded or diminished expectations.”
