Halperin Slams Brock's 'McCarthyite Tactics' Against Sanders

David Brock’s pro–Hillary Clinton Super PAC attacked Bernie Sanders, talking up his connections and similarities to newly elected British Labour-party leader Jeremy Corbyn. Sanders cited the attack in a fundraising appeal, and his team claims they raised $1 million, getting as many as 180 contributions a minute.

As seen here in this video clipped by RealClearPolitics, earlier today on Morning Joe, Mark Halperin ripped the Brock move as “McCarthyite tactics, where the campaign isn’t willing to stand up and say — or the super PAC — this is what we’re saying,”

Three quick lessons from this . . .

One: The team around Hillary Clinton still hasn’t figured out how to make an effective criticism against someone to her left in an increasingly far-left Democratic party.

Two: Jeremy Corbyn – who calls Hamas and Hezbollah “friends,” who called the death of Osama bin Laden a “tragedy” — has some fans in the Democratic party’s grassroots. Note that Sanders said he was “delighted” Corbyn will be leading Labor now.

Three: During the 2008 campaign, the Hillary campaign felt like the media held them to an unfair standard; as the nominally less-Left candidate in the primary, the Clintons suddenly found themselves getting the skeptical and sometimes hostile tone of coverage usually reserved for Republicans. She should expect more of this.
