Ed Snider, a wildly successful entrepreneur and founder of the Philadelphia Flyers, has died of cancer.
Snider was, among his many enthusiasms in life, an admirer of Ayn Rand’s and a founding patron of the Ayn Rand Institute.
Here is Snider talking about Atlas Shrugged on the 50th anniversary of its publication. Snider, like many Rand devotees, spoke about the author and her work in semi-religious tones, an irony to which he was insensitive.
He also was an extraordinarily generous benefactor of many Jewish causes, with little fanfare, especially for a man who was in the entertainment business.
Somewhere between Atlas Shrugged and Chabad Lubavich, he found inspiration for an extraordinary life. RIP.
