Charles Krauthammer said a “more practiced politician” than Donald Trump would have “undermined and denied the premise” of the New Hampshire man who last night asked how “we can get rid” of Muslims like “our president.”
“The problem is that Trump himself had trumpeted, if you like, the birther theories, the idea that he wasn’t an American, he wasn’t Christian awhile ago,” Krauthammer said on Friday’s Special Report. “He hasn’t, as far as I know, directly repented that.”
There’s only one way Trump can escape future episodes like last night’s, and it’s unlikely to happen, Krauthammer argued.
“Somebody in the press should simply say, ‘Where do you stand on where the president is from and whether he’s a Muslim?” Krauthammer suggested. “I think now he needs to answer that question and he can simply say, ‘I looked at the evidence and I was wrong.’ But he doesn’t say that very easily.”
