This morning Representative Peter King, New York Republican, appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and declared, “I hate Ted Cruz. And I think I’ll take cyanide if he got the nomination.”
Now, King is no stranger to controversy; he lumped Rand Paul in with ISIS while debating a government surveillance bill. He said John Boehner’s decision to resign as speaker was a “victory for the crazies.” He recently argued that GOP senators aren’t treating Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland with respect by refusing to hold hearings on him.
And King really can’t stand Ted Cruz. He described the Texas senator as “a guy with a big mouth and no results” ; in January he called Cruz a “carnival barker” who should “go back under a rock.” Earlier this month, King said, “Any New Yorker who even thinks of voting for Ted Cruz should have their head examined.”
Maybe he thinks Cruz will be bad for the markets and he’s worried about his IRA. Something’s got his Irish up. You can always count on Peter King to provide the bombastic, incendiary element. Whatever King’s troublesare, we hope he realizes cyanide is not the answer.
