Florida representative David Jolly caused a stir this morning when he told CNN that Marco Rubio was saying he would seek reelection to the Senate.
Jolly has long believed Rubio is running, and he reiterated that to National Review on Monday. But regarding his latest comments, Jolly’s campaign manager Max Goodman clarifies that Jolly has “no direct knowledge” of Rubio’s plans.
A Rubio insider says Jolly got over his own skis: that while Rubio is, by his own admission, more likely to run now than he was before, “There has not yet been a final decision.”
Rubio said Wednesday he was reconsidering whether to seek reelection to the Senate, and suggested a decision would come after the weekend. He has been facing pressure to run from Senate colleagues and Florida allies.
Jolly is one of five candidates currently running for Rubio’s seat, but he is considering running for reelection to his House seat instead. Jolly’s decision will come at a press conference this afternoon.
