Newt Gingrich was on Fox News Sunday and, once again, mounted an impressively deft defense of Donald Trump, all things considered. But this line, on Trump’s constant changes of position, wasn’t one of his best moments: “I think he stands for an evolving process of trying to come to grips with really big problems.” He stands for always adjusting what he stands for!
I still think Newt makes sense as Trump’s VP pick, although Chris Christie might be better, as he’s demonstrated 100% loyalty and a willingness to defend anything. Newt has occasionally wobbled. Neither Gingrich or Christie would do anything electorally for Trump, but neither would the senators who are being talked about — John Thune, Bob Corker, and Jeff Sessions. At least Newt or Christie would be entertaining.
