Clintonite Insanity

Apparently Gloria Steinem has a theory that some liberal women don’t like Hillary Clinton. Michelle Goldberg writes about it at Slate:

“If Hillary had a husband who regarded her as an equal—who had always said this country got ‘two presidents for the price of one’—it only dramatised their own lack of power and respect,” [Steinem] writes. “After one long night and a lot of wine, one woman told me that Hillary’s marriage made her aware of just how unequal hers was.”

There are a lot of theories out there about the very real resistance to Clinton among women who, on the demographic surface, should be her base. This, however, is the first time I’ve seen it suggested that they wish their husbands would be more like Bill Clinton.

Meanwhile, Peter Daou and Tom Watson are defending Clinton from Joe Biden over at HillaryMen.com, which seems like it will be reliably entertaining during her campaign. Biden said, in an obvious shot at Clinton’s description of Republicans as enemies, “It is necessary to end this notion that the enemy is the other party, end this notion that it’s naive to think we can speak well of the other party and cooperate.” Daou and Watson boldface the word “naive” in the quote and then comment:

Calling a popular, powerful, accomplished woman “naive” has troubling overtones. Saying it about the frontrunner for the Democratic nomination is exceptionally reckless.

Um, guys? Read the quote again. Biden didn’t call Clinton naive.
